Suggestion: Visit the dynamic Port Town of Bastia

The dynamic city of Bastia remains lively year-round and offers a wonderful welcome to Corsica. While it may not have the relaxed charm of its long-term rival Ajaccio and is home to fewer people, it’s much larger to stroll around and has the feel of a genuine lived-in city that refuses to sell its soul.

Bastia’s historic core consists of two distinct neighborhoods: Terra Vecchia, surrounding the small original harbor; and Terra Nova, the high-walled citadel above. Although those names mean ‘Old Land’ and ‘New Land’, the hilltop fortress is actually much older, built from the 15th century onwards as the stronghold of Bastia’s Genoese overlords. What’s now the Terra Vecchia replaced the tiny fishing village below with a tangle of alleyways, an ensemble of splendidly top-heavy tenement blocks, and some fine churches.

You may want to browse around the abundant colorful markets where cheeses, fish, seafood, cold cuts, honey, olives, wine, and many other regional delicatessens are praised with the typical Corsican loquaciousness.

ake a stroll through L’Ile-Rousse, the ancient fishing village settled in Roman times and developed into a trade port in the 18th century by Pasquale Paoli, a famous Corsican patriot, and leader who was fighting the Genoese control. Offering a view of one of the most beautiful gulfs in the Mediterranean Sea and situated in the heart of the well-preserved scenery of the Balagne region, L’Ile-Rousse is nestling amid vineyards, olive groves, and citriculture.

Be charmed by the beautiful Place Paolo and may want to have a drink on one of the many shaded terraces or simply sit down on a bench and soak up the Mediterranean lightness of being. Join the locals for a game of boules and actively take part in the Corsican “art de vivre”.

L’Ile-Rousse is bordered by three fine sand beaches offering sports activities, as well as deck chairs and parasols. Napoleon Beach is easily accessible from the town center and in summer you can observe sailing and motor boats. Loxari Beach is a wilder option, nestled between the mountains and turquoise waters.

Individual Hike along the Path “Sentier des Douaniers“(Cap Corse)

Follow the track of the former customer officers on the “Sentier des douanier” which will lead you past the old Genoese tower Santa Maria and the impressive rocks overhanging the blue sea. This is a relaxing and easy walk for those who want to soak up the pure sea breeze and marvel at the beautiful scenery!

Canyon tour in Ponte Leccia (half-day activity) – Shared

This is an exciting and sporty adventure together with family or friends. In a playful way you will discover the untouched nature. Your qualified guide will always respect your personal wishes, if you want to miss out on an obstacle, don’t worry!

Take your equipment at the agency in Ponte Leccia. Then, reach the beginning of the activity with your own vehicle (20 minutes drive). Before beginning the activity, a certified guide will brief you about the security and make sure you have all the information to enjoy your activity (about 15 minutes). The activity is about 2 hours, with an addition of 20 minutes walk before or after the descent. Then, you’ll go back to your vehicle and bring the equipment back to the agency (20 minutes drive)

Guided hiking tour to the Gorges of Tavignano, followed by a visit to Corte

Today you will walk towards the Gorges of Tavignano, west of Corte, where you will have the chance to go for a swim in the Tavignano river and gaze at the amazing mountain landscape.

Then you will return to the small village of Corte where you can visit the quaint fortress, the panoramic lookout, the Saint Croix chapel, the church, and the Corsica museum at the end of your tour.

You will be accompanied by an English, French, and German-speaking qualified mountain tour guide.

Via Ferrata – Intermediate path next to Ponte Leccia – Shared

Take your equipment at the agency in Ponte Leccia. Then, reach the Asco Vallée Aventure Park with your own vehicle (20 minutes drive). At the park, a certified guide will brief you in terms of security and make sure you have all the information to enjoy your activity. Then the track will take you between 2 hours and 3 hours to complete, according to your rythme. Then, you’ll go back to your vehicle and bring the equipment back to the agency (20 minutes drive)
