Historically, the Petite France neighborhood was the poor section of the city occupied by mills and tanneries, both of which depended on the river and its downward-flowing branches to support their work. Start your day with a visit to the majestic 12th-century Haut-Koenigsbourg castle which has been a constant witness to both European conflicts and rivalry between lords, kings, and emperors. Explore the castle with a guide, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Drawbridges, walls, towers, and keeps: everything you had imagine about medieval architecture takes form before your eyes. You’ll break for lunch in Riquewihr, a stunning French village renowned for its half-timbered houses and medieval charm. Indulge in local Alsatian cuisine and explore the village, which even inspired the set design for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.

After lunch, you will head to two gems of the Alsace region: Kaysersberg, a wine village with a beautiful old town center, and Eguisheim, with its cobbled streets, colorful houses, and well-preserved architecture.

Day 4: Strasbourg
