Welcome to Strasbourg!
Walking the tightrope between France and Germany, Strasbourg Grande-Île was the first urban center in France to be listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. You will discover the delightfully twisting alleyways lined with half-timbered houses and a Gothic masterpiece of a cathedral, described by Victor Hugo as “a gigantic and delicate marvel” and visible from miles around with its 142-meter spire.
You can also explore the ‘Petite France’ which is a picture-postcard quarter once home to tanners, fishermen, and millers, now a haven of peace at the city’s heart. Strasbourg has also become renowned for its cuisine.
Day 2: Strasbourg
Private Walking Tour of Strasbourg
In this walking tour, your guide will take you to discover the Grande Ile (a Unesco World Heritage site), around the old pedestrian areas, the Cathedral, and the Petite France neighborhood. Strasbourg has so much more to offer including the visit of the German district, the visit of the European Parliament, or the different Museums located in the Palais Rohan.
The old city centers around its Gothic cathedral – Our Lady of Strasbourg. This elegant cathedral was built of red sandstone and was described by Victor Hugo as a “gigantic and delicate marvel”.
Historically, the Petite France neighborhood was the poor section of the city occupied by mills and tanneries, both of which depended on the river and its downward-flowing branches to support their work. Today, the neighborhood is one of the most charming of Strasbourg with its colorful 16th and 17th-century half-timbered houses such as the ‘Maison des Tanneurs’.
You may also go see a series of fortified bridges and their three towers. This succession of three bridges linking arms with the Ill River is dominated by three 14th century towers, remains of the ancient medieval ramparts, a total of 90 towers. The bridges themselves were once capped by a wooden roof.
Day 3: Strasbourg
Half day bike guided experience in Alsace
Enjoy a morning or afternoon discovering the Massif des Vosges with your rented mountain bike and a professional guide to accompany you. You might even go to the Hohneck, the highest and most famous summit of the region. From there, the panorama extends from the plain of Alsace to the Black Forest and, on a clear day, you can also see the Alps.
Guided, advised, and well accompanied! A perfect excursion.
Bicycle transport is provided at a most suitable starting point.
Day 4: Obernai - Strasbourg
Full-day private tour on the Alsace Wine Route
On this tour, you will explore the beautiful region of Alsace and its charming vineyards!
The driver guide will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to discover Alsace and its cultural and wine treasures. You will be traveling along the Wine Route and falling upon Obernai, a charming medieval and Renaissance town with a majestic belfry.
You will then be visiting the unusual village of Mittelbergheim, with its narrow streets ranked as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, nestled at the heart of vineyards. A local wine grower will share with you their love for Alsace and the wines of their unique environment. You will also get to taste the delicious wines and experience the local specialties.
Before the end of the day, your driver-guide will take you to the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. This fortress is one of the symbols of the Alsatian heritage and a witness to the course of European history. Thanks to a private guided tour, you will become more familiar with the castle’s architecture, the Middle Ages history, and the early 20th-century restoration.
