Premium | From $3,799 pp
Day 1: Rouen
Arrival at your accommodation
After the check-in, you will have the rest of the day to visit the surroundings.
Private Guided Tour of the Historical Center of Rouen
Famous for its Gothic cathedral which inspired Claude Monet’s series of cathedral paintings, the capital of Normandy has outstanding medieval heritage.
Your guided tour will also take you to see the Saint-Maclou church, a true jewel of Gothic architecture, the Saint-Maclou atrium, a former parish cemetery, the abbatial church of Saint-Ouen, the Gros Horloge (large clock), and a very important and emblematic building in the city, the Maison Sublime, which is the oldest Jewish monument in France. You will also see the Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc Church and its 16th century stained glass windows.
Wandering through the centre of Rouen, you will see beautiful half-timbered buildings, the Palace of Justice with its civil architecture from the late Middle Ages, and the Place du Vieux-Marché where Joan of Arc was tortured in 1431.
Day 2: Deauville
Private Transfer from Rouen to Deauville
Arrival at your accommodation
After the check-in, you will have the rest of the day to visit the surroundings.
Suggestion: Self guided visit to Deauville & Trouville
Let yourself be enchanted by the glamorous and stylish charm of the oldest French seaside resorts – this is where the rich and beautiful of the world meet.
Deauville is located directly on the waterfront and boasts magnificent villas and elegant estates that combine a wide variety of architectural styles, from Second Empire facades mixed with neo-Gothic, English, and Norman influences, half-timbered and Art Nouveau buildings to Art Deco houses.
Stroll leisurely along the promenade “Les Planches de Deauville”, the adjacent beach cabins bear the names of famous American actors and directors who visited the seaside resort on the occasion of the annual American Film Festival. Nearby are the Pompeian Baths, built in 1924 and modeled after the bathing facilities of Pompeii. Horse lovers will want to visit a horse race or one of the noble riding stables.
On the other side of the river (accessible via the bridge “Pont des Belges”), Trouville-sur-Mer, the more modest pretty little sister of Deauville, presents itself. Here, the painters Eduard Manet, Claude Monet, Eugène Boudin, and Camille Pissarro were inspired. The old fishing port is now a popular seaside resort with a picturesque old town, beach promenade, old villas, and an exclusive marina. Worth seeing is the town museum and the artist portraits in the Villa Montebello. A very special experience is the lively morning fish market.
Day 3: Bayeux
Private side-car tour of the Côte Fleurie
Alone or in pairs, embark on a journey with your “Gentlemen Sider”, a retro-looking motorcycle enthusiast, aboard an authentic sidecar. Visit Trouville: a large fine sandy beach, the “Queen of Beaches”, casino, chalets, and villas.
Then you will discover the prestigious seaside resort of Deauville with its characterful villas that line a beautiful sandy beach, racecourses, golf courses, casinos, galleries, and the famous “Planches de Deauville”, an iconic place on the Norman coast. See the charming port of Honfleur at the mouth of the Seine, a place of choice and inspiration for impressionist painters.
Inspired by the original Soviet M72 and its most recent incarnation, your motorbike is just as robust, simple, and beautiful as its forebears. But it has all the modern features modern riding demands: disc brakes and modern suspension, without losing those retro looks. Whether you are a history lover or wish to appreciate the wonders of the Normandy coast, your sidecar will transport you to the heart of the local treasures.
Suggestion: A day at leisure in Bayeux
The Bayeux Tapestry is, without a doubt, the most famous tapestry in the world and an unmissable site when you are in this part of Normandy. The tapestry depicts the conquest of England by the Normans, led by William the Conqueror, in the 1077 Battle of Hastings. An extraordinary feat, the tapestry is about 80 meters long and 50 centimeters high and is a fascinating document that provides a great deal of valuable information about life at that time.
Bayeux itself is an attractive town with a well-preserved medieval center surrounding its renowned cathedral. Notre Dame dates in part from 1077, although most of what we see today is in gothic style and was built in the 13th to 15th centuries. The medieval streets around the cathedral also have medieval houses, some half-timbered, and many other historic buildings of interest.
Bayeux is a popular base for exploring the beaches where the allied forces landed in 1944 at the beginning of the reconquest of Europe. The Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy recounts the action seen in Normandy from June 6th to August 29th, 1944. Nearby, Bayeux also houses the British war cemetery in Normandy. The cemetery is very moving and immaculately kept. A lovely mix of perennials and red roses decorates each of the graves.
Day 4: Caen
Full-day private driver at disposal
Suggestion: Visit Caen
Caen was destroyed almost entirely in 1944 during WWII. It is a remarkable achievement that Caen has kept so many of its historical monuments, given the terrible battle that besieged the town following the Normandy beach landings. After the war, the city passed through 15 years of reconstruction and continued to improve afterward. In recent years it has made further significant efforts. Caen now has an attractive, carefully restored, historic center.
Start your visit at the Château Ducal. This castle was built by William the Conqueror to house and protect his residential palace. It was destroyed in the war, but the massive and impressive ramparts remain. These provide great views of the city and are a popular place to relax and visit. Down below the ramparts, the main town lies in between the superb Abbaye aux Hommes on one side and the impressive Abbaye aux Dames on the other. The Abbaye Aux Hommes is a beautiful building and incorporates the Abbey of Saint Etienne where much of the town sought shelter during the 1944 bombings. Caen’s pleasure port, next to the Abbaye aux Dames, is a lively place with many cafes and restaurants.
On the edge of the town center, the Caen Memorial is a recent addition to the town. It is an impressive museum that explains the history of the war during the 20th century. Exhibits and displays help explain both world wars, including the Normandy landings, the battle for Normandy, the Nazi genocide and the Cold War.
Private visit to the Haras du Pin National Center and horse show
The Pin National Stud -often known as the “Versailles of the Horse” – was built on the orders of Louis XIV in a verdant setting covering more than 1000 hectares (2500 acres).
During the course of this tour, you will have a presentation of the history of the stud and the evolution of its missions commented on by your guide. After the introduction, it is time to move on to the different stables, from showcasing the original stalls which are preserved and which has now been transformed into a museum space to discovering the home of the artists in residence – where you can approach the horses, the stars of our shows. The visit ends with the horse-drawn carriage shed, which is a beautiful collection carefully preserved at the Haras du Pin.
On this tour, you will also get to see the equestrian show where horse dressage demonstrations and other dizzying acts in multiple disciplines follow one another. Free-roaming horses, acrobatics, and show jumping make this show a complete presentation of equestrian art.
