Here are buried the remains of almost six millions Parisians, which were transferred from the overfilled cemeteries into the catacombs until well into the 19th century.
Dug out in the Middle Ages, the Catacombs of Paris were originally a quarry used to extract material such as stone, clay and plaster for the construction of the city.
Today access into the Paris Catacombs is very limited and only a small section is open to the public. Very few selected agencies offer guided tours. Join this small group tour and enjoy the skip-the-line access. You will hear many strange and macabre stories about this subterranean graveyard and definitely not forget this adventure!
Be aware that the temperature in the catacombs is 14°C (57°F) all year round (please dress accordingly). As you have to climb down and back up 130 steps and walk nearly two kilometers through the tunnels, you must be in good shape.
